The calendar for August is up now!

Hi there Free Skoolers,

The calendar for the month of August is now available in the "Current Calendar" section. Right now, this is the only place to access the calendar. There is no PDF available for download yet. I will post an update as soon as that is available.

If you have any questions or comments about the calendar, you can comment on this post or you can e-mail us. If you have any questions about the individual classes, please contact the e-mail or phone number provided to interact with the facilitator directly.

I'm very pleased to be presenting the Phoenix Free Skool's very first calendar of classes.

All knowledge is power! All power to the people!

Check out the "Potential Classes" section!

The new "Potential Classes" section features classes that are all ready to go, but need a location. Think of it as a Craigslist personals section for Free Skool Classes and Locations; "Single art class looking for a fun, brightly lit space... are you the one?" This is a way you can help out the Free Skool even if you don't have the time to facilitate a class or money to donate. Remember, if these classes don't have a space, they don't happen.

If you don't want to host any of the classes currently looking for a location, but would like to potentially offer your space, contact us at phxfreeskool@gmail.com and let us know a bit about yourself and the space and what classes you think would work well in it. Then, if we find something that might match up, we'll contact you.

Finally, we hope to get up a section of all the "I Want to Learn" responses so people can vote in a poll on what seems interesting to them and what they would participate in to encourage a facilitator to come forward and propose a class.

Nav Bar is Currently Down

Wouldn't ya know it...

I tried adding a "Current Calendar" section to our pages as a placeholder, and the navigation bar disappeared completely. I will try to get the nav bar back asap, but I'm too tired right now from the feast.

Until then, here are the links within this site:

Speaking of the feast... huge gratitude and respect for everyone who helped make the first PHX Free Skool Feast so amazingly successful and meaningful for so many reasons.

Oh, Hey There.

Fancy seeing you here.

First Post!!! Hello there! This is the blog for Phoenix Free Skool! This project is in it's baby stages or organizing, but we're glad you found our blog.
A “Free Skool” is a radical approach to spreading knowledge, skills and information throughout our community free of monetary cost and of the institutionalized environment of formal schooling. Our goal is to provide free classes, workshops and skillshares to anyone who wants to learn.

---Everyone is a teacher and Everyone is a student----

So, the idea is to have the organizing capacity to put out a monthly calendar of free classes. The classes we're able to put on the calendar will be based on what we hear folks are interested in learning, as well as the resources we have available.

We won't have a centralized space for the classes to be held, rather in our dream, classes will be held at different locations around town depending on the needs of the class (and depending on the warm hearts of folks willing to open up their spaces for a class)

The more awesome people, spaces and other resources we have, the more awesome this project can be! In short, to make this a reality, we're going to need some help. We're looking for:

-People who can commit to organizing
a monthly calendar of classes
-Web designers
-Outreach
-Donated spaces to hold classes
-English/Spanish Translators
-People who want to teach
-People who want to learn
-Artists
-Musicians
-Bookworms
-Mathematicians
-Scientists
-Daydreamers
-Brains

Our next Organizing Meeting is on Sunday, July 25th at 5pm
At Aside (formerly known as Conspire)
901 N 5th St, Phoenix, Arizona 85004
